The National Child Traumatic Stress Network has created resources to help families to cope with the pandemic.

The Parent/Caregiver Guide to Helping Families Cope with the Coronavirus Disease contains an overview. You’ll find a table on pages 4-5 with age-specific information on how children may respond, and ways to help in response.

The Supporting Children During Coronavirus fact sheet provides specific guidance on steps such as:

  • Start the conversation
  • Encourage your children to ask questions
  • Validate emotions
  • Address missed developmental milestones
  • Be a positive role model, and practice self care

The Helping Children with Traumatic Separation or Traumatic Grief Related to COVID-19 provides guidance for children distressed about loved ones who are health care workers, in isolation, or in hospital.
